HP Lights-Out Online Configuration utility (HPONCFG) is a Windows or Linux operating system based utility available to configure iLO (Integrated Lights-Out) of your server from within the host operating system. The HPONFCG utility basically supports HP ProLiant 300/500/700 and HP Blade servers, Or in another words, it supports iLO, iLO 2, iLO 3 and iLO4.

Whenever you install a Hard drive to your server, it gets connected to a device called Hard Drive Backplane. Hard Drive Backplane is a single device in which all the hard drives of your server will be connected (See the photo below). Hard drive Backplane will have SATA, SAS or SCSI Hard drive compatible slots.

HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) is one of the bright feature available on all HP Proliant and Blade Servers (hope you are not using Antique HP/Compaq Servers). iLO allow us to manage server remotely and it works at the hardware level. So you will have access to the server even when the Operating system is crashed/not installed/Server is in Powered Off state!

HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) is a hardware component installed on the HP server.
